So, what exactly is FOMA?!
_
FOMA consists of a group of about 60 people, all of whom are musicians with The Florida Orchestra. The organization was originally formed with the primary purpose of protecting the orchestra's future, both artistically and through the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Over time it has evolved to include outreach and community service through music as a core element of it's existence. Today, FOMA has three primary goals:
FOMA members pay yearly dues to be part of the organization. Meetings are held throughout the year to discuss projects, issues, and upcoming events. FOMA members are passionate about making and sharing music with the community, and that passion helps us persevere in the highly competitive field of classical music. Throughout this website you will find stories about how that passion has molded and affected our lives as well as the lives of those around us. You will also read of the duty we all feel to protect the quality, tradition, and excellence of this world-class orchestra. Our dedicated stewardship is the only way we can ensure that future generations will have access to classical music, and support from our community is the only way we can be assured of success. If you have any comments or questions you can contact the musicians directly by clicking on our "Contact Us" page. |
